While their craftsmen employ time-honored French metal-forming equipment, all key fabrication steps are performed by hand. Consider that their best-selling rack, containing six major components, requires over sixty handling steps to complete. This process of multiple touches assures the superior quality that shows in our work.

Rightfully their craftsmen take pride in the personal touch they apply to creating products. Their job is not one of an assembly line. Their products take close attention to produce – completed in small lots of 30 to 60. And along the way virtually every component needs a “tweak” or modification to match the design. This represents the efforts of skilled humans, not machines.

Materials

Flat bar steel is the raw material underpinning the business.

To start they purchase the best hot-rolled steel available – from the largest and most consistent mill – to provide the backbone for our hammered steel products. This material is ideally-suited for the transformation they accomplish to reveal the rich, distressed look of the signature finish.

Next, Enclume pioneered shaping stainless steel into cookware racks. They continue on with a variety of stainless products, all crafted from the finest 304 material on the market. And today the process for brushing our stainless bar to a uniform satin finish has improved to near perfection.

Finally they come to the jewel-like plated products. Copper, chrome or copper –the key for all is top quality cold-rolled steel. They buy this level of material because it alone can be processed to accept the type of plating that can be polished to an unblemished, mirror finish. A plated rack from Enclume is expensive, and now you know why. It is also the best.

They purchase some other items for their products, like hanging grids for pot racks or eastern maple tops for kitchen furniture. Here their standards are simple – the quality must equal or exceed that of what they fabricate ourselves. Why would they ever diminish the quality of their own work with inferior inputs of others? Not a chance!
